Churchill Park Community Garden is tucked away on a sheltered site beside the Dudley Stream in Rochmond. The mature trees and vibrant vegetables and herbs make this a wonderful place to relax or to have a picnic. If you would like to join us in growing vegetables please phone Mary 03 942 6840. 022 699 41 43. You can also havve your own plot for growing. We have a good group of volunteers who create this garden.
The soil is sandy and stonyc essentially but we have grown green manure crops of blue lupins and mustard . Compost and mulching material has been delivered by a local lawn mowing contractor. The great surprise of this garden is how well crops have responded on such initially poor soil. Silver beet, cabbages, radish, herbs, beans tomatoes and peas are all thriving. We grew three family sized cabbages.
The Churchill Park Community Garden has been established on part of the site previously occupied by Churchill Courts. The site has been established by Richmond Community Action. The garden is part of a temporary park which is used for events and provides a pleasant place beside the Dudley Stream for the people of Richmond. The garden is supported by Worthington Contracting.
