Earthquake effects and current needs
The garden is a quake response, and temporary. Additional volunteers are welcome on Tuesday mornings. The garden is seeking gifts of cold frames or cloches for crop protection and seedlings.
How the garden came about
Garden is temporary, and a response to loss of houses here. The idea was put by GtR project worker to owner Tony Gray, when he was volunteering on another GtR site. He agreed to a one year, extendable site licence. Tony and has helped by restoring water supply, and the loan and gift of materials (bricks and timber, respectively). Deaf Aoteara’s new office vege garden was destroyed by the quakes, so they loaned their timber raised beds for re-erection here, and helped to install them. Also time input from students at Christchurch Catholic College, Hagley Community College, and significant gifts of materials from GtR sponsor companies.
